Advisors

The Dean of Students Office recognizes and encourages student development outside the classroom through involvement with faculty and peers. As an advisor to a registered student organization (RSO), you provide students with individualized attention that "places the learner at the center of learning scholarship." It is through these valuable interactions that students experience the small-college atmosphere and large-university opportunities as outlined in the Educating Illinois Strategic Plan.

Expectations of Advisors

Whether you are new to the organization or a veteran advisor or leader, it is important for student leaders and advisors to engage in periodic discussions about the advisory relationship. Both the advisor and leaders/officers should set expectations about the level of advisor involvement and preferred methods of communication.

These types of conversations will help in preventing miscommunication and confusion as well as keep members engaged.
