Board Membership and Application

Applications for the Parent and Family Advisory Board are evaluated by the PFAB Review and Selection Committee. Finalists are submitted to the Vice President for Student Affairs for selection and appointment to a two-year term.

Expectations of Board Members

• Attend Parent and Family Board meetings. Typically, meetings occur once in the fall and spring semesters. If necessary, the number of meetings may be increased.
• If appointed by the PFAB, serve on committees, which include, but are not limited to, the Bone Scholar committee, Alumni Board, and Foundation Board.
• Participate in as many appropriate university activities and events as possible in an effort to represent parents and family members of Illinois State University students. Attendance at Family Weekend is required. Additional events include, but are not limited to:
• Freshmen Information Nights
• Redbird Welcome Parties
• Passages
• Homecoming
• Sibling Weekend
• Provide feedback to University Departments, when requested. Feedback is provided to departments in a variety of ways such as focus groups, online surveys, telephone surveys, on-campus meetings, etc.
• Become "experts" on the types of parent and family support offered by the University.
• Provide regular feedback to the Coordinator of Parent and Family Services regarding the type of "training" Board members need and want in order to become "expert parents."
• Assist Parent and Family Services with the recruitment of potential Parent and Family Advisory Board members through active participation in campus-wide events (such as those listed above).
