Why be a part of the Board?

Here are some of the things that current and former board members have to say about their experiences on the Parents and Family Advisory Board. If you decide that the Board is right for you, please complete a membership application.

Betty Dortch

Collinsville

"A parent’s involvement with their child’s school need not end upon graduation from high school. I recently became a member of the Parents Association Board and I am glad that I did. It’s a great feeling to know that the administration has such an open door policy and is ready, willing, and able to listen to the voice of the parents and the students."

"Each and every encounter that I have had with the administration, faculty, staff, and students at ISU has been a very positive and rewarding experience: from the first tour of the campus; to Freshmen Information Night; to Preview; to our first Family Weekend. I think the school does an outstanding job of preparing incoming freshmen (and their parents!) for life at ISU."

John M. Nelson

Rockford

"I enjoyed serving on the PAB for many reasons. First and foremost, I had a legitimate excuse to come to campus and visit my son while trying to do good things for parents. ISU is a true jewel. I never minded trying to give some small contribution to my child’s alma mater.”

Linda Goll

St. Charles

“I have enjoyed working with the other parents involved on the PAB. We share many laughs over our common denominator, our ISU students. Come and join in the fun.”

Lynn Walwer

Springfield

"Joining the Parents Association Board has given me the opportunity to feel more a part of the University. I thoroughly enjoy my experience as a member of the Parents Association Board. At the meetings, I listen to Dr. Bowman tell about what is happening at ISU. I learn about some of the financial concerns, safety practices in place, campus programs, and the demolition and building of dorms and new centers. I think it is marvelous that we parents are given these opportunities to know what is going on and to feel like we are an important part of the ISU story. The Parents Association Board is a great team of interested, concerned, and friendly parents of ISU students."

Terri Cameron

Springfield

"It's easy to focus entirely on your child and the process of sending her off to school -- allowing everything you know about the school to filter from her. However, the communication is so much richer when you stay involved in ISU life. The Homecoming Parade (and winning best float one year!) and Family Weekend were much more exciting for me because I was a part of it -- not just seeing things through my daughter's perspective. The Board meetings have been fun events, and in addition to an opportunity to interact with other parents, they provide a chance to have coffee with my daughter every couple of months!"

Jeff and Jodi Brown

Northbrook

"Being members of the ISU Parents Board is truly an enjoyable experience. We really feel like part of the University and especially look forward to the briefings and remarks made by President Bowman and Vice President Adams during every meeting."
