Redbirds for Recovery is a newly proposed student group that is intended for students in recovery, students who choose to live a substance free lifestyle, and students who are advocates/allies of these two groups. Although some students have already expressed interest in the group, more are needed to get this group started; executive board positions remain available if you would like to gain skills in leadership.
The vision is that the group will:
plan and also engage in substance-free socialization activities throughout the semester, including BBQs, movie nights, sober birthday parties, bowling parties, sporting games, and more (the primary focus).
engage in service projects throughout the year, giving back to the ISU and local communities.
educate the campus on substance use disorders, problems caused by substance use, and recovery, thus serving to end stigma.
assist the campus in celebrating Recovery Month in September.
identify and train allies across campus who can support students who want to discuss substance concerns, recovery, or relapse.
