Current Volunteer Needs

 

Leadership and Service provides a weekly list of current volunteer opportunities available within Bloomington/Normal to help students learn more about the community and meet local needs. Check back every week for new listings or subscribe to the listserv (at the right) to get the list emailed to you.

  • Home Sweet Home Ministries. Contact Linda Smith at (309) 828-7356.
  • Expanding Your Horizons.  Plan the annual youth conference, assist with workshops and displays.  Contact Lauren Schmidt.
  • Passages Hospice.  Caring, compassionate individuals needed to offer hospice patients emotional, spiritual, and physical support or perform agency administrative tasks. Contact Amy O'Day at (309)660-4953.
  • Boys and Girls Club.  Variety of activities and programs working with youth on an ongoing basis. Contact Darcy Hermanat (309) 829-3034
  • Wood Hill Towers. Focus on concerns of the senior community through communication development, fundraising, social activites, and many more tasks.  Contact Mary Williams at (309)829-5454 or (309)310-4243.
  • Wishbone Canine Rescue.  Assist with upcoming adoptions or administrative tasks.  Contact Katie Riordan
  • Children's Discovery Museum.  Volunteer for programming, camps, after school program, and parties and work with children visitng the museum.  Contact Shelly Hanover at (309) 433-3453. 
  • Marcfirst - Volunteers needed Tuesdays, Wednedays, and Thursdays at the reception desk.  Contact Sara Reeves at (309)451-8888, ext. 229.  
  • McLean County Court Appointed Special Advocate.  Advocate for children who have suffered abuse and neglect.  Contact Margie Jordan. ** VOLUNTEERS MUST BE 25 YEARS OF AGE **
  • Bloomington Public Library - Help visitors as a library technology volunteer.  Contact Lindsay Barber.   
  • Normal Public Library. Volunteer with Partners in Reading or other opportunities. Volunteer application and background check required. Visit our volunteer page for more details.
  • Crossroads Global Handcrafts.  Volunteer to be a sales associate, create store displays, provide community outreach, provide bookkeeping services, create newsletter or marketing materials at this fair trade store. Contact Gayle Miller at (309) 827-0121 or stop by the store at 428 N. Main Street in Bloomington.
  • Star Adult Literacy. Teach English as a second language or reading to adults. Contact the office at (309) 888-9884.
  • Children's Home + Aid.  Volunteer in the Crisis Nursery, Early Learning Center or with the Parent's Care and Share program, or with courthouse childcare. Contact Katie Clothier at (309) 834-5231 or email Katie Clothier.
  • Phone Hotline.  Answer phones at the 24 hour hotline for PATH Hotline volunteer training provided beginning September 17. Contact Alicia at (309) 834-0541.
  • PATH Money Management Program.  Assist elderly individuals with paying bills and balancing the checkbook. Contact Doug at (309) 834-0545.
  • Habitat for Humanity.  Assist with Restore, the Habitat Discount Home Center through Habitat for Humanity. Contact Steve Stolarick at (309) 454-6047.
  • Project Oz. Assist with the front desk by answering phones, fielding crisis calls and greeting clients. Contact at (309) 827-0377.
  • Special Opportunities Available in Recreation (S.O.A.R.). Help with program activities and events and work closely with participants to provide an enjoyable and quality leisure experience. Contact Diana Myers at (309) 434-2405.
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters. Make a difference in the life of a child by being a mentor during school hours or evenings/weekends. Contact at (309) 828-1870.
