The Diversity Advocacy unit has now become the Multicultural Center, a new department in the Division of Student Affairs. The mission of the Multicultural Center is to facilitate critical programs, services, and scholarship that promotes antiracism, equity, and justice at Illinois State University. Programming will include campus-wide antiracism training, institutes, and conferences; identity-affirming programming; leadership; and community development for cultural identity groups.
A large facility on campus is being renovated for the Multicultural Center that will allow for new and expansive programming, meeting, study, reflective, and entertainment spaces. The Multicultural Center will cultivate a space that encourages solidarity, identity development, belonging, and community. The new space will be completed by late spring. The current Diversity Advocacy office space will remain in the Bone Student Center and will operate as a satellite office for the Multicultural Center.
The Diversity Advocacy organizations—Black Student Union, Association of Latin American Students, Asian Pacific American Coalition, and Pride—will continue to be sponsored student organizations in the Multicultural Center.
